On Friday 23 October 2026, SICOM, in collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (FAREI), organised a fresh produce expo sale aimed at promoting locally grown fruits and vegetables cultivated using bio-farming techniques.
Held at SICOM Tower in Ebene, the event attracted a diverse range of consumers interested in discovering locally produced fruits, vegetables and their derivatives. It also provided an opportunity for attendees to learn more about sustainable farming practices and access high-quality local produce.
The event also featured an informative session led by a representative from FAREI, who shared practical insights into compost making, along with useful farming tips and techniques.
Building on its continued collaboration with FAREI, SICOM aims to further promote sustainable agriculture, support local farmers and raise awareness of environmentally responsible farming practices. Such initiatives are expected to encourage greater consumption of locally grown produce, improve market access for local farmers and contribute towards strengthening food security and sustainable livelihoods in Mauritius.
Overall, the event provided a valuable platform to showcase the work of local farmers and strengthen their connection with the wider community. Through this initiative, SICOM reaffirmed its continued commitment to sustainability by encouraging the consumption of locally grown produce and supporting environmentally responsible agricultural practices.
